Sometimes when you have to write a blog post, you could end up with “writer’s block” and it can be quite annoying! Other times, you might write a post about a specific topic, but it just doesn’t seem interesting. And it doesn’t matter how many ways you re-write the content!
It doesn’t matter whether your content should be helping to sell a product or not. What does matter is that you “sell” your content to the reader. And if they’re not going to buy it, chances are no-one else will either! That’s why it is crucial any blog posts you write pack a punch.
You only have a few precious seconds to hook your reader. Are you having trouble making your blog posts awesome? If so, the following five tips in this handy guide will help you out:
1. Write to your reader
It sounds like an odd thing to say. After all; you are writing to your target audience! Despite people’s best efforts, it’s easy for them to disconnect themselves with their readers.
Instead of writing to a brief, you should write your blog posts as if you were addressing a reader in front of you. It’s the easiest way to make a connection with someone interested in what you want to say!
2. Mix up your sentence lengths
If you’ve got a lot to say on a particular topic, it can become boring if every sentence was the same length. Mix things up a little by including both short and long sentences in your paragraphs.
It’s easy to do, and I’ve done it in this blog post as well. You don’t need to be uniform with your writing. Remember: writing is a form of creativity!
3. Be active with your content
One surefire way to make your writing a little more exciting is by using action verbs. Instead of saying “we can build computers” say something like “we build computers.”
Getting rid of words like “can” and “will” makes your writing more direct and straight to the point. No-one likes waffle (at least, not in a writing sense).
4. Get other people to write for you
Regular content is one thing that can make or break a blog. If you post up once a week, people aren’t going to keep checking back for updates.
Instead, you should get some other writers on board. It’s a brilliant idea for people that blog for their business too. Why? Because it means your content covers all kinds of different topics. If you just keep talking about the same stuff all the time, you’ll sound like a parrot.
Do you need help getting other writers on board? If so, consider using a firm that offers blog management for local businesses. You can get access to a pool of pro writers. And they’ll make your content sell itself too!
5. Use metaphors and analogies
Each blog post you write is a story. There’s nothing to say that one story cannot contain another! One way to make your content more interesting is by using metaphors and analogies.
They are even better if they are stories your readers can relate to as well!
